Cate Blanchett To Play Lucille Ball In Upcoming Biopic

Lucy is returning to Hollywood! This time to the big screen. Actress Cate Blanchett will portray screen legend Lucille Ball in an upcoming biopic for Escape Artists.
Ball is most known for her work in television. In 1951 she created the TV show “I Love Lucy” with her then husband Desi Arnaz. “Lucy” would go on to become one of the most admired and beloved television shows in history. Ball was also the star of such shows as, “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour”, “The Lucy Show”, “Here’s Lucy”, and “Life with Lucy”.
In 1962, Ball became the first woman to run a major television studio which is responsible for producing such iconic classics as “Mission Impossible” and “Star Trek”. She was a 13 time Emmy nominee, a 4 time winner; and is the recipient of the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award (1979) to name a few of her achievements.
Ball & Arnaz’ children Lucie Arnaz & Desi Arnaz Jr. will produce alongside Escape Artists whose Jenna Block who will oversee the project. Aaron Sorkin will pen the script and is the top choice of a writer for Escape Artists. He’s most known for writing such films as The Social Network, A Few Good Men, Charlie Wilson’s War, Moneyball, and the upcoming biopic Steve Jobs starring Michael Fassbender. He’s repped by WME.
Blanchett was recently seen in Cinderella and Carol which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. Her upcoming work includes the Dan Rather biopic Truth and the new Terrence Malick picture Knight of Cups. She is repped by CAA & RGM Artists.
