The Definitive Batman!
Well, the reports are in … Warner Bros. LOVES Ben Affleck! So much so that they gave him THREE SOLO BATMAN FILMS!
Their upcoming saga Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) (BvS) is the film that kick starts their new cinematic universe, the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), and rumor has it that director Zack Snyder screened a “nearly finished” version of the film to WB executives and the crew of the film. The result was an all around standing ovation! It was to the point that one of the executives called Ben Affleck THEE DEFINITIVE BATMAN! Affleck was then given a trilogy of Batman films to direct, star, and co-write after the screening now; starting with the one he was already slated to create with a-list comic book creator Geoff Johns set for a 2018 release. This rearranges his already slated films with WB. The Accountant has been moved from the beginning of the 2016 to the end of 2016, and Live By Night from 2016 to 2017.
The new DCEU is now being centered around Affleck’s Batman. His version of the caped crusader was already leaving his mark in this new cinematic universe. He’s the reason why all of the Suicide Squad is in prison. The second film to help kickstart the DCEU in August of next year. And when Wonder Woman reveals herself as an individual the year after, it will be interesting to see the relationship that BvS hints at between the two in her film based on this one.
There’s a lot of pressure for BvS to succeed, and with the amount of views its trailers are receiving, it’s safe to say the fans are eager and hopeful for that success!
The DCEU slated films at this point are: Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice on March 25th, 2016, Suicide Squad on August 5th, 2016; Wonder Woman on June 23rd, 2017; Justice League on November 17th, 2017; The Flash on March 23rd, 2018; Aquaman on July 27th, 2018; Shazam on April 5th, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14th, 2019; Cyborg on April 3rd, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on June 19th, 2020.
